Early printing, stating Reprinted September, 1920 with no mention of subsequent printings. Dark green cloth with significant water staining to upper and lower boards, affecting the end papers in front and rear and evident on the lower foreedges of texblock from half title to approx p. 11 of the text; in the rear pp. 264-269 as well as endpapers. No writing in text. Boards slightly cocked, though binding is generally good; (2) The Beautiful and the Damned. New York: Scribners, 1922. 8vo. First edition, second state with publisher's colophon on the copyright page and with single page of ads at rear (This Side of Paradise Twelfth Printing and Flappers and Philosophers Fifth Printing). Rippling to spine cloth, gilt darkened. Writing on front pastedown. 449 pp.; (3) Vegetable. New York: Scribners, 1923. 8vo. First edition, presumed later state. states Published April, 1923 with no mention of later printings. Single page of ads at rear, uncut at top. Some discoloration from dampstaining to cloth, but not severely damaging.
Gilt on spine is darkened. Front joint is split from top down approx 1 inch starting just below; bottom of front hinge is holding; no issues with rear hinge. Textblock clean, no writing in text. - Lot 2
